How long have you been working in PPC?
I have been working in PPC for almost 3 years, although it does feel a lot longer.
How did you get started in PPC?
I was doing my masters while working at a complaints department regarding digital marketing. This was all complaints to do with websites, online listings, PPC, SEO etc. I just really enjoyed helping businesses and marketing, so I did all my Google exams and got a job as a PPC exec in my first role.
If you went to college, what did you study? If not college, do you have any other degrees or certifications?
I have a Degree and Masters in Law.
What was your first job that involved PPC?
It was a PPC exec role, this involved doing ad copy, creating new campaigns, keyword research – all the basics.
What is your current position and how long have you been in it?
PPC Account manager and I have been doing this for 2 and a half years now and still loving it.
What kinds of things do you currently handle or manage in PPC?
I do cover the below areas:
- Google Ads (Search, Shopping, Display, YouTube, App)
- Microsoft Ads
- LinkedIn Ads
- Facebook Ads
I specialise in Shopping and Facebook at the moment, I am also a tag manager specialist here at Absolute.
Has your career path had any hiccups or nontraditional aspects that you’d like to share?
In a non-traditional aspect I would say it is how I started out, studying for a Masters in Law while dealing with complaints at a Digital Marketing company. I often get asked why I didn’t continue down the Law route. I discovered in my very first role which was around complaints that the skills needed in Law could also be found in Marketing and these skills are:
- Constant Learning
- Analytical
- Thinking out the box
I did have hiccups in my role as a PPC exec, I would say any mistakes you make makes you a great account manager if you can learn to rise above them and learn.
What are you most proud of in your PPC career?
Speaking at Measurefest as a part of Brighton SEO. I did my training on GA4 which is both very new and extremely complex.
What, if anything, do you wish you could “do over” in your PPC career?
I honestly wouldn’t change anything. Everything including any mistakes have all made me a better Account Manager.
If you could give advice to someone either considering or just starting out in PPC, what would that be?
Determination will be your best friend. You will face rejection, hard calls and difficult tasks, but with determination you will succeed.
Are you interested in speaking opportunities? If so, what topics are your jam?
Absolutely. I am currently a speaker. My specialties are eCommerce and tracking but I speak about anything that I am passionate about. Which is quite a lot.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I absolutely love talking about PPC, any questions I am always here for a chat.
