Alejandra Trujillo was nominated for a PPC spotlight profile in February of 2022.
How long have you been working in PPC?
I’ve been working in PPC for a year and a half. It definitely feels like way more than that!
How did you get started in PPC?
I wanted to work with something that would combine marketing and data analysis, and POD Marketing was recruiting Jr. Marketing Scientists. So I started with them in October 2020, and there have been lots of challenges and fun!
If you went to college, what did you study? If not college, do you have any other degrees or certifications?
I have a degree in Communications, and I also have a post-secondary diploma in Business Administration! I’m also certified in Google Analytics, Search, Display, and Facebook!
What was your first job that involved PPC?
My former job role as a Jr. Marketing Scientist at POD Marketing Inc.
What is your current position and how long have you been in it?
I started as a Jr. Marketing Scientist in October 2020, and from November 2021, I’m an intermediate Marketing Scientist, which means I’m currently managing bigger accounts!
What kinds of things do you currently handle or manage in PPC?
I manage Google Search, Display, Youtube, and Facebook campaigns. Performance Max campaigns are coming up for me soon. I mostly manage lead gen campaigns, so Ecommerce is an area I’d love to explore more for sure!
Has your career path had any hiccups or nontraditional aspects that you’d like to share?
Since I work in the healthcare industry, navigating industry regulations has been challenging. Nontraditional aspects would be: I’m from South America, and I moved to Canada 4 years ago to study English, then I decided to go to Business School, all of this while I had an 8-month-old! I learned lots in my professional career and learned a lot about myself and how resilient I am.
What are you most proud of in your PPC career?
I’m proud of how passionate I feel about this. I’ve been working for only one year and a half, but I have worked hard to catch up by following the #PPCChat on Twitter, asking some members’ books to read, and understanding that it’s okay not to know it all. My biggest accomplishment, I’d say, is seeing my clients grow and buying more business to expand their operations as a result of our Google Ads campaigns performance.
What, if anything, do you wish you could “do over” in your PPC career?
Be more fearless and experiment more from the beginning!
If you could give advice to someone either considering or just starting out in PPC, what would that be?
Test, test, test! Fail fast, so you understand how this works. Don’t be afraid to take risks if you support your ideas on data. Research! There is so much information on the internet! You can literally watch a video of someone breaking things down for you and making them easy to understand. We’re as resourceful as we never were, and we have to take advantage of that!
Are you interested in speaking opportunities? If so, what topics are your jam?
Speaking is not my forte haha, but Resilience is my jam. Would you think that’s relevant? I believe there are so many PPC experts out there that I may be redundant.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I just feel very grateful for how open the PPC community is! I’ve never felt too dumb asking questions or sharing my opinion since there are no right or wrong answers here. Thank you, Julie, for your hard work on this!
