PPC “Yikes Moments” & How To Handle Them – January 4, 2022

This week’s chat was hosted by Julie Friedman Bacchini and the topic was “PPC Yikes Moments & How To Handle Them”. We discussed different situations we have found ourselves in over the years that were difficult, stressful or when a client or stakeholder wanted to do something ill-advised and how we did/would handle that.

Read the full chat recap here.

Listen to the podcast recap here.

(Podcasts are also available on iTunes and Google).

Some highlights from the chat:

In response to this question – Q5: What are some things that clients or stakeholders do that make you cringe that you wish they wouldn’t do or would at least consult with the PPC team about?

A5: Changes to the site, promotions or programs that they don’t realize affect PPC, but do. I’m not psychic, Bob, when you change your prices that are listed in the ad extension, I can’t know to update them intuitively #ppcchat

Me: Call extensions stopped working, did you change the phone number?
Them: We changed call tracking service providers, didn’t think you needed to know #PPCchat pic.twitter.com/lr1fp3ls6O

A5: Take a call with a platform rep without me there on the call with them.

They are sales people & they can be pretty slick at getting them to agree to things, then we have to pick up the pieces.

Close second is changing product pages, site url structures, etc…#ppcchat

Hello incredibly dramatic & over the top Google Ads alert.

One low-performing keyword can HARM MY WHOLE ACCOUNT?

This is a ridiculous alert. What kind of language is that to describe having low CTR keywords in an account?

Still looking for examples of Google Ads Led Forms opening on a Google hosted page that appears to be on the destination host domain.

#ppcchat Does anyone us Lead Form Extensions & have seen the experience change recently? Looking for any documentation. Current experience hijacks the click with display url of domain/form instead of having it as a serp option INSTEAD of clicking to site.
